        • SYNOPSIS

          A Cuban first-time director paints the portrait of contemporary rural Cuba, while at the same time outlining the temperament of its people. Monica is the sole worker in a sugar factory that used to give life to the island. Her husband, Aldo, a swimming instructor, teaches his young pupils how to swim in a pool with no water. The newlyweds live in a tiny house, along with Monica’s 8-year-old daughter and her grandmother. In the morning, they illegally sublet their flat to illicit couples, in order to make some extra money, and Aldo tries to sell meat – an activity which is banned by law in Cuba.
