In the last couple of years, Scandinavian film has been catching the eye of film amateurs worldwide with bold and unique productions. Two years ago, FEST presented the Oscar-winning In a Better World by Suzan Bier; last year, the Danish film The Hunt, by Thomas Vinterberg left a strong impression. One of Vinterberg’s colleagues from the Dogme 95 is the famous Lars von Trier, whose Melancholia we have watched only two years ago. This year, von Trier comes with the ubber-controversial Nymphomaniac, which will be shown only once, in an late-evening time slot, restricted for minors.
This year, FEST will pay tribute to Scandinavian film with a special programming unit with five films. From Denmark will come two exciting thrillers - The Keeper Of Lost Causes by Mikel Norgard and A Hijacking by Tobajas Lindholm. Lindholm is both the writer and the director - as a script writer, he became known for the aforementioned The Hunt. His first film has had a rich festival life and reaped the prizes for best film in Thessaloniki and Palm Springs.
The Norwegian director Erik Skjoldbjærg will present to the FEST audience the thriller Pionir. He started his career with an exception film Insomnia, the remake of which was later made by Christofer Nolan. His next project was Prozac nation and Pionir is his fourth full-feature film, which was screened on the festivals in Toronto, London, Chicago, Helsinki and Hamburg.
The Hidden Child is the second feature film of Per Hanefjord. This crimi-drama was inspired by the same-named book by Kamila Lakberg, which is part of the series of crime and mistery novels.
Ragnarok is the Norwegian response about Holywood doomsday movies, by Mikel Sandemose. Described as a mix between Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, the film deals with the ancient Norwegian legend about the end of the world.
