Apart from promoting young authors and presenting some undiscovered gems of international film, FEST has always featured the latest works of famous filmmakers. We have some of those last year, while having forgotten others, waiting for their new films. Woody Allen was the most-watched director at last year’s FEST and he may well end up at the top spot this year, since he is coming with his brilliant Blue Jasmine. Francois Ozon’s Dans la maison received great critics last year and this year, he comes with the controversial Jeune et Jolie. Alexandre Payne fared well two years ago with The Descendants and this year we will see him with Nebraska, cementing his status among the elite authors of the younger generation. Roman Polanski had only four actors in Carnage and he takes this minimalism even further in Venus in Fur with only two protagonists. Only Lovers Left Alive is Jim Jarmusch’s first film in four years, breathing new life into the already exhausted vampire franchise. Terry Gilliam brings us a Sci-Fi fairy tale Zero Theorem, while the Coen Brothers made an unorthodox film, Inside Llewin Davis.

After successes with High Fidelity or Dangerous Liaisons, Steven Frears made Philomena, while his fellow countryman Ralph Fiennes will present to us his second director’s work The Invisible Woman. Fiennes also stars in Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel. Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovitch) Her and David Linch’s documentary about the band Duran Duran will definitely be a treat for FEST’s viewers. One of the most famous Polish directors and the leader of the Polish school of film Andrzej Wajda said his film about former Polish President Lech Valensa was the greatest challenge of his longstanding career. Finally, famous French Director Patrice Leconte will open this year’s FEST and we will have the opportunity to see his film A Promise.
